In May 2021, Siti, 38, discovered a lump in her left breast. As it was painless, she initially didn't pay it much attention. By July, she noticed the lump had enlarged and sought consultation at a local hospital. After a simple physical examination and an ultrasound, she was diagnosed with suspected breast cancer. The doctor recommended a biopsy for further investigation. Days later, Siti was confirmed to have breast cancer.

Being young, Siti sought opinions from several local medical institutions in Indonesia, hoping to find a treatment that would cure the cancer without compromising her quality of life. However, as the tumor was quite large, the proposed solutions from these institutions consistently recommended a mastectomy (breast removal), which greatly distressed Siti.
Upon the recommendation of friends and relatives, Siti found the medical team led by Director Zeng Zhiqiang at our hospital's Breast Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment Center. During the pre-operative discussion with Siti's family regarding the surgical approach, Siti and her family expressed a desire for the complete removal of the breast. Their concern was the potential for the remaining breast tissue to become cancerous, feeling that removal would be safer.
Director Zeng Zhiqiang, Chief Physician of the Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Center, explained: "Our treatment plan not only aims to thoroughly remove the lesion but also utilizes internationally advanced technologies like the da Vinci robotic system and laparoscopic techniques to minimize breast scarring. Simultaneously, we perform breast reconstruction by implanting a breast prosthesis for the patient. This surgical approach avoids the significant physical and psychological trauma associated with losing a breast. Breast reconstruction has become a win-win procedure, achieving both physical minimal invasiveness and psychological well-being."
Before the surgery, the anesthesiologist administered multi-dimensional anesthesia to ensure precise pain management, guaranteeing Siti's comfort throughout the entire procedure.
The surgery began with an incision in the axilla (armpit), followed by another to address the axillary lymph nodes. The affected glandular tissue and the lesion were then removed, and a breast implant was placed for reconstruction. Post-surgery, only a small incision remained in the axillary area, thereby preserving the breast's integrity and its pre-operative appearance. This method not only treated the patient's condition but also enhanced the breast's aesthetics, significantly boosting the patient's self-confidence and overall quality of life. Director Zeng emphasized: "Our advanced medical technology can alleviate patient pain, eliminate the disease and cancer risk, and ensure a high quality of life."
Today, Siti has completed chemotherapy and the mastectomy with reconstruction. She is currently undergoing a five-year course of Tamoxifen treatment to reduce the risk of recurrence.
Reflecting on her journey fighting cancer, she is deeply moved and amazed by her own strength in overcoming the challenges. Initially, fear stemming from a lack of understanding about breast cancer gripped her. However, at Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital, she met many fellow breast cancer patients. Sharing their experiences with them helped her find hope. Their stories helped her become more positive and optimistic. Siti expresses gratitude to Director Zeng Zhiqiang and his team for the exceptional medical care and emotional support provided, which enabled her to face breast cancer bravely and rekindle her passion for life.
