Speciality:
Dr. Ma specializes in the treatment of critically ill neonates, including early identification, integrated respiratory and circulatory management, neonatal resuscitation, and the care of extremely low birth weight infants. He has extensive experience in managing neonatal critical conditions. In recent years, his focus has been on strategies for circulatory support in critically ill neonates and the prevention, treatment, and long-term home care management of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) in premature infants.
Profile:
Dr. Ma Mingguang is a highly regarded post-80s pediatric expert. He graduated from Hebei Medical University and possesses profound professional knowledge and extensive clinical experience in pediatrics.
He has previously worked at renowned tertiary hospitals including the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Bethune International Peace Hospital, Eight-one Children’s Hospital of Beijing Military General Hospital, and Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, specializing in neonatal critical care. During his tenure, his exceptional medical skills and dedication allowed him to build a solid practical foundation in neonatology, laying a strong groundwork for his subsequent professional development.
Dr. Ma has particular expertise in the treatment of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) in infants, which is his primary research focus. He participated in the multi-province traffic escort incident involving the “palm-sized baby (Xiao Qingyao) with BPD” from Henan, Hebei, and Beijing for medical treatment in the capital. As the accompanying physician in the ambulance, he provided continuous care for nine hours without rest, successfully stabilizing the baby even during a critical cardiac arrest and ensuring the infant’s safe transport to a children’s hospital in Beijing for further treatment. This event deepened his understanding of the challenges faced by BPD patients and strengthened his resolve to dedicate himself to this field.
In clinical practice, Dr. Ma has developed a unique and effective approach to BPD treatment. He emphasizes the concept of “integrated cardiopulmonary management” and creates personalized treatment plans through multidisciplinary collaboration. He is actively involved not only in in-hospital treatment but also pays special attention to post-discharge home care and follow-up, helping parents master scientific nursing methods to ensure continuous and effective care for their children. For instance, he conducted home follow-up visits for a BPD patient from Wuxi named Nan Nan. During these visits, he not only guided the family in proper home care but also conducted in-depth research, identifying the cause of wet rales in BPD patients, thereby accumulating valuable experience for subsequent diagnosis and treatment. Nan Nan is now in elementary school, healthy and active, which stands as a strong testament to Dr. Ma’s medical expertise.
In addition to his rich clinical experience, Dr. Ma actively participates in domestic and international academic exchanges and technical guidance, contributing to the advancement of neonatal critical care medicine.
Currently, Dr. Ma serves at Star Hospital in Xuzhou as the Assistant Director and Director of the ICU and Chronic Lung Disease Center. During his tenure, he has led his team in treating nearly 120 severe BPD cases, many of whom were infants deemed untreatable by tertiary children’s specialty hospitals across China. These patients came from all over the country and even from overseas. Facing many families impoverished by the disease, he and his colleagues actively raised charitable funds, collaborating with foundations and caring enterprises and individuals to donate and help these families through difficult times.
Dr. Ma also serves as the Pediatric Medical Director of Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Group, continuing his dedicated work in pediatrics. He participates in building the “Fosun Health Model” for BPD, based on an integrated online-to-offline concept, aiming to provide comprehensive and convenient medical services to more BPD patients through a combination of remote online guidance and professional offline treatment. With his exquisite medical skills, high medical ethics, and his passion and dedication to pediatrics, Dr. Ma has won widespread praise from parents and high recognition from peers, serving as a guardian for the healthy growth of countless children.

Dr. Ma Mingguang Introducing the Concept of “Integrated Cardiopulmonary Management” to Pediatricians from Latin American Countries Including Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic

Professor Carolina Del Carmen Herrera Contreras from Argentina’s National Department of Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonology expressed gratitude for sharing China’s experiences in this area, particularly the concept of “integrated cardiopulmonary management” and the case studies of moving NICU care to home settings, which broadened her treatment perspectives. She hopes to engage in multi-level and multi-form experiential exchanges and technical cooperation with our hospital in this field, looking forward to working together to enhance the level of critical care and jointly explore innovative paths to improve the survival rates of BPD patients.
