Profile:
Dr. Liu Kaidong graduated from the Clinical Medicine Department of School of Medicine of Sun Yat-sen University. With 30 years of experience in clinical practice, teaching, and research in cardiovascular medicine, he currently serves as a Professor at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Medical University. He pursued advanced training in cardiology at Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. In 2018, he was recognized as a Foshan Outstanding Young Medical Talent.
Speciality:
Dr. Liu specializes in complex and challenging coronary stent implantation, permanent pacemaker implantation, interventional diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias, minimally invasive renal denervation (RDN) for hypertension, interventional therapy for congenital heart disease and left atrial appendage occlusion, and minimally invasive interventional procedures for peripheral vascular diseases (including aortic dissection, abdominal aortic aneurysm, lower extremity arterial stenosis or occlusion, inferior vena cava filter implantation, and thrombectomy for lower extremity arterial and venous thrombosis).
Positions:
• Standing Committee Member, Coronary Heart Disease Committee, Guangdong Association of Chinese Integrative Medicine
• Committee Member, Coronary Intervention Committee, Guangdong Society of Interventional Cardiology
• Vice Chairperson, Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Control Committee, Foshan Preventive Medicine Association
• Committee Member, Cardiovascular Branch, the Medical Association of Foshan City
• Standing Committee Member, Cardiovascular Branch, Foshan Association of Chinese Integrative Medicine
• Vice Chairperson, Foshan Heart Failure Center Alliance

Unit 3 of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is a comprehensive, modern specialty that integrates medical care, teaching, and research. It is a key specialty during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period in Foshan. The department serves as an affiliated clinical college and master’s degree granting site for Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Medical University. It is the first cardiovascular department in Foshan to simultaneously hold national centers for chest pain, hypertension, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and cardiac rehabilitation. Additionally, it serves as the guiding institution for three municipal academic alliances: the Foshan Heart Failure Center Alliance, Foshan Hypertension Standardization Center Alliance, and Foshan Atrial Fibrillation Center Alliance.
1. Interventional Therapy for Coronary Heart Disease: Particularly skilled in complex and challenging coronary stent implantation, with a high success rate in recanalizing chronic total occlusions. Proficient in coronary rotational atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) counterpulsation.
2. Interventional Therapy for Major Vessels: Such as stent implantation for aortic dissection, endovascular exclusion for abdominal aortic aneurysm, stent implantation for lower extremity vascular stenosis or occlusion, inferior vena cava filter implantation, and aspiration thrombectomy for deep vein thrombosis in the lower extremities.
3. Radiofrequency Ablation and Pacemaker Therapy for Arrhythmias: Including electrophysiological studies, radiofrequency ablation for arrhythmias, and implantation of permanent pacemakers/defibrillators.
4. Interventional Therapy for Congenital Heart Disease: Including closure of atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, patent foramen ovale, and patent ductus arteriosus.
5. Interventional Therapy for Structural Heart Disease: Including left atrial appendage occlusion, mitral valve balloon valvuloplasty, percutaneous mitral valve clipping, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
